What is Roulette?

When playing roullete, players place chips on the roulette table until the dealer announces “No more bets.” Then the dealer spins a wheel and a ball in the opposite direction.

The roulette table includes sections for different types of bets. These include inside bets (individual numbers and small groups of numbers) and outside bets.

Origins

Roulette is a game with a very long history. It is thought that it originated in 1655 with a French mathematician named Blaise Pascal. At the time, he was working on his quest to create a perpetual motion machine and stumbled upon a very primitive version of what we now know as roulette.

During this time, there were many other games that were similar to roulette, such as portique, hoca, bassette, and roly poly. These games are often cited as precursors to the modern European/French roulette. However, it was only until 1860 that gambling was made legal in Monaco, and that’s when the Blanc brothers introduced the single-zero roulette wheel that is used today. It was then that the game became widely known. The word ‘roulette’ itself is derived from the Latin rotella, meaning little wheel.
